Lyco is delighted to announce the arrival of Philips Hue, the latest range of connected lighting technology to be added to our ever-growing collection of smart lighting and accessories. The Philips Hue brand has become synonymous with the term ‘smart lighting’ in recent years; from its first introduction way back in 2012, the brand is now the go-to connected lighting system for tech-obsessed home and business owners.
A large part of Philips Hue’s success can be attributed to its accessibility and flexibility. The Philips Hue ecosystem combines intuitive technology with brilliant LED light to create a completely new lighting experience. The system consists of three key components:
The lights – Philips Hue offers three types of smart lights that come in different shapes, sizes and models, including popular GLS and GU10 variations. Choose Hue White Changing for easy control from relaxing warm white light to cool daylight, or Hue white and colour changing for a fully immersive experience – with more than 16 million colours to choose from, there’s no end to the possibilities. All of the lights work together to make home or office environments smarter, more comfortable, and more energy efficient.
The Bridge – At the heart of the Hue ecosystem exists the Hue Bridge, which acts as the link between the app and the bulbs. Linked to a home Wi-Fi connection via a router, the Bridge can connect up to 50 bulbs at a time!
The app – The Philips Hue app grants users full control of their system from virtually any device, from anywhere. The app can be used to change colours, adapt brightness, set timers and schedules, and much more. Philips Hue lights can even be synced with music, films, and games for fully immersive media experiences.
Philips Hue also works with a range of different smart devices, including Amazon Echo, Apple HomeKit, Google Home and many others, making it the perfect addition to any connected environment.
Getting started with Philips Hue
Installing Philips Hue is a simple four step process.
Step 1: Screw in the lights and power them up. The lights will automatically turn on, indicating they are ready to be paired with the bridge.
Step 2: Connect the Hue Bridge to the router via an ethernet cable and wait for the lights on top of the bridge to light up.
Step 3: Download the official Philips Hue app for iOS or Android. When the app is opened for the first time it will automatically search for the Hue Bridge. From there, it’s simply a case of following the on-screen instructions.
Step 4: Add connected lights, group them into rooms, set room types, and name as required. This part of the process can be revisited at any time.
